If I had to choose one item that can most easily transform the mood of a summer outfit, I would now choose—shoes.
When I used to shop for summer shoes, my first thought was always, “Do I like the way these look?” But now, I pay much more attention to how comfortable they actually feel and whether they can genuinely fit into my everyday wardrobe.
Because for me, summer shoes can’t just look good.
When the weather is hot, I want my shoes to feel lightweight. When I know I’ll be walking a lot, I want enough support under my feet. When I’m wearing a dress, I want my shoes to make the entire look feel lighter. And when I’m going on a date or heading to a summer dinner, I want them to add a little extra polish to my outfit.
So this time, I want to share four pairs of summer shoes that I genuinely love.
I’m approaching them from my own styling habits, talking about their design, materials, and the clothes I personally love pairing them with.
01 | Birkenstock Arizona: My Favorite Relaxed Summer Vibe
If I had to choose one pair of shoes that feels the most like “summer” to me, I would definitely think of Birkenstock Arizona.
The Arizona has been one of the brand’s iconic two-strap sandal styles since 1973, and it is still available in different materials including leather, suede, and synthetic options. I personally like the Arizona Oiled Leather, especially in classic shades such as Black or Tobacco Brown. It features oiled leather, the signature cork-latex footbed, and a lightweight EVA sole.
When I first wore the Arizona, I honestly didn’t think it looked particularly “fashionable.”
But after wearing it for a while, I started to appreciate it more and more.
I really like the visual effect created by the two wide straps. The design is very simple, but it can easily make an outfit that feels slightly polished look much more relaxed.
Especially when I’m wearing a linen dress in summer, I love pairing it with the Arizona.
I might wear a cream or light brown linen maxi dress with brown Arizona sandals and a woven bag. The overall look doesn’t feel overly formal, but it also doesn’t become so casual that I lose a sense of femininity.
What I actually love most is the footbed.

02 | adidas Samba OG: My Favorite Contrast with Dresses
If the Arizona represents relaxed summer style, then adidas Samba OG represents “retro, youthful, and a little cool” to me.
I absolutely love wearing sneakers with dresses.
Especially in summer, when I’m wearing a floral dress or a white dress, I don’t necessarily want to pair it with another delicate sandal.
Instead, I prefer using the Samba OG to create a little contrast.
I particularly like the classic Cloud White / Core Black / Gum color combination. It features a low-profile silhouette, full-grain leather upper, suede overlays, and the classic gum rubber outsole.
What I love most is the shape.

If I know I’ll be walking a lot that day, I usually lean toward sneakers as well.

03 | Tory Burch Miller Sandal: When I Want to Look a Little More Polished
If I’m going to afternoon tea, on a date, or to a beautiful restaurant with friends, I’ll switch to the Tory Burch Miller Sandal.
I particularly like the classic Miller Sandal.
The classic style on Tory Burch’s U.S. website features a leather upper, Napa leather lining, leather strap connections, and a flexible rubber sole. The footbed also offers light cushioning, while the most recognizable detail is the laser-cut Tory Burch logo.
I think the Miller is perfect for those moments when I want to look a little more put-together.
It isn’t as formal as a pair of heels, but it is noticeably more refined than a basic casual sandal.
I especially like the logo design.It isn’t an oversized logo that dominates the shoe. Instead, it is incorporated directly into the upper, giving it a subtle but recognizable brand identity.
Another reason I love it is that it’s a flat sandal.
I don’t have to sacrifice comfort just to look polished.
Of course, if I know I’ll be walking for hours, I’ll still choose footwear based on the day’s activities. But for shopping, dinner, dates, or relaxed social occasions, I find the Miller to be a really good fit for my lifestyle.
I especially love this feeling:
I look like I made an effort, but my body doesn’t feel restricted by what I’m wearing.

04 | Teva Original Universal: The Summer Shoes I Actually Take on Vacation
For the last pair, I wanted to choose something completely different from the first three.
It’s the Teva Original Universal.
If the first three pairs are more about answering the question, “How can I make my outfit look stylish?”, then Teva solves another very practical summer problem for me:
What should I wear when I know I’ll be walking a lot?
It features quick-drying REPREVE® recycled polyester webbing, a multi-point adjustable Universal Strapping System, and hook-and-loop closure. The midsole uses EVA, while the outsole is made with rubber. The brand positions it for everyday wear, travel, and water-related activities.
I honestly didn’t used to associate this kind of functional sandal with “fashion.”
But my perspective has changed.
Especially when I’m traveling, I’ve started to believe that comfort itself can be stylish.
If I’m visiting a city where I know I’ll be walking a lot, going to the beach, traveling, or doing outdoor activities, Teva is one of the first pairs I put in my suitcase.

That’s the kind of styling I’ve been enjoying more and more.
I don’t want every item in an outfit to emphasize “polish.”
Sometimes a pair of genuinely comfortable shoes that allows me to walk for miles makes me feel much more confident and relaxed.
My Summer Shoe Styling Formula
After writing about these four pairs, I’ve realized that I actually don’t need that many summer shoes.
I just need to choose according to how I feel that day.
If I want a relaxed vibe, I choose Birkenstock Arizona.
If I want a youthful, retro look with a little street-style edge, I choose adidas Samba OG.
If I’m going to a date, afternoon tea, or a summer dinner, I choose Tory Burch Miller Sandal.
If I’m traveling, exploring a city, or spending time outdoors, I choose Teva Original Universal.
I’ve increasingly come to believe that shoes aren’t simply the final step of a summer outfit.
They can actually determine the mood I want to embody that day.
If a pair of shoes makes me imagine different places, different outfits, and makes me want to wear them again and again, then for me, they’re no longer just a pair of shoes.
They’re part of my summer life.

After all, true summer style isn’t about walking carefully because of uncomfortable shoes. For me, it’s about putting on a pair I love and being able to walk freely toward wherever I want to go.
