My Summer Outfit Formula: Elevated Looks I Can Wear from Everyday Plans to Dates

For me, a truly elevated summer look should have thoughtful details while still feeling effortless to wear; it should feel polished without making me feel like I am trying too hard. Especially when the weather is hot, I pay much more attention to how my clothes actually feel on my body.

Is the fabric breathable? Does the cut restrict my movement? Is the color timeless enough to wear again and again? Can I simply change my shoes, bag, or jewelry and take the same outfit from daytime to an evening date?

So this time, I wanted to organize four of my most-worn summer outfit formulas based on my everyday life.

From everyday workwear and weekend plans to afternoon coffee and summer dinners, I want these outfits to be more than just beautiful. I want them to genuinely earn a place in my everyday wardrobe.

01 | Reformation Moya Linen Two Piece: My Favorite Summer Matching Set

If I had to choose one outfit that best represents my idea of “summer elegance,” I would immediately think of the Reformation Moya Linen Two Piece.

It is a two-piece set consisting of a sleeveless top and matching midi skirt. The current official price is $298, and it is available in colors including White, Midnight, and Black. The top features a bateau neckline, while the skirt has an A-line silhouette that defines the waist while still leaving plenty of room through the skirt. According to the official product information, the set is made from 100% linen and is fully lined.

I especially love this kind of matching set because of how effortless it makes getting dressed feel.I used to spend so much time standing in front of my wardrobe trying to figure out which top should go with which skirt. But with a coordinated set like this, I barely have to think.

Once I put it on, the entire outfit is already complete.

What I particularly like about the Moya is that it doesn’t make “elegance” feel complicated. The bateau neckline gives my shoulders and neckline a clean appearance, while the A-line skirt doesn’t cling too tightly to my legs. When I wear it, I feel like I have enough freedom to move while still having some definition around the waist.

That feeling is really important to me.I don’t want my summer clothes to feel too restrictive, but I also don’t want to completely lose my silhouette.100% linen is one of my favorite summer fabrics. I especially love its natural, effortless texture. It isn’t overly smooth or polished, and that’s exactly why I think it has a more authentic kind of elegance.

I also love the way linen naturally changes with wear. If it develops a few wrinkles, I don’t consider that a flaw. Instead, I feel that it gives the entire outfit a more relaxed, lived-in character.I especially like wearing it for weekend lunches, city dates, or dinners while traveling.

During the day, I pair it with flat sandals. In the evening, I simply switch to low heels and add a pair of gold earrings, and I feel like I have instantly transitioned from “weekend casual” to “dinner date.”

That’s exactly why I love this piece so much.

One outfit, but it can take me through completely different occasions.

02 | COS Short-Sleeved Linen Shirt Dress: My Summer Workwear Formula

If the previous outfit is what I choose when I want to dress up a little, then the COS Short-Sleeved Linen Shirt Dress is something I genuinely find myself wearing again and again.

The current COS short-sleeved linen shirt dress features a relaxed boxy silhouette, pointed collar, short sleeves, and back pleating. The beige version is currently listed at $129 on the U.S. website. It is made from lightweight linen, has a relaxed cut, and uses buttons for fastening.

I’ve always loved shirt dresses because they solve one of my most common summer wardrobe problems:

What am I going to wear today?

Sometimes I simply don’t feel like putting together a complicated outfit. That’s when I reach for a shirt dress, put on a pair of sandals, grab a bag, and walk out the door.

I especially like the relaxed silhouette of this COS dress. It doesn’t emphasize my waist too much, and it doesn’t make my body feel restricted by the clothes. When the weather is really hot, I actually find a slightly looser cut much more comfortable.

I love pairing the beige version with brown leather sandals, a brown leather bag, and gold jewelry.

If I want something more casual that day, I’ll switch to white sneakers. If I have a date in the evening, I’ll change into a pair of delicate low-heeled sandals and slightly roll up the sleeves.Sometimes I even add a belt around the waist to create a more defined silhouette.

The same dress can be my work outfit during the day, and with just a few small changes, it can become much more feminine and date-appropriate in the evening.

It also has one quality I really appreciate:

When I wear it, I don’t have to constantly think about my clothes.

03 | Sézane Marga Blouse + Midi Skirt: My Favorite French-Inspired Summer Look

If I want something a little more romantic for summer, I immediately think of the Sézane Marga Blouse.

Right now, I particularly like the Cesaria Print version. It features a square neckline and slim shoulder straps, with a specially arranged print and covered buttons at the back. The fabric is made from 55% linen and 45% organic cotton, and the current U.S. price is $135.

I especially love tops with this kind of subtle vintage character.

It doesn’t make me feel overly “sweet” or girly because the linen-and-cotton texture gives the print a more natural feeling.

I like pairing it with a high-waisted A-line midi skirt in cream, off-white, or dark brown.

My favorite part of the Marga Blouse is actually the neckline.

The square neckline reveals just enough of my shoulders and collarbone without feeling as overtly sensual as a deep V-neck.I think it is perfect for summer.Especially on a beautiful sunny day, when I wear this top with a high-waisted skirt, I feel like my entire look becomes a little softer.

I also love what a printed top does to my mood.I tend to wear a lot of solid colors in my everyday wardrobe, so whenever I switch to something with a print, I immediately feel like I’m dressing differently—and even my mood changes with it.

What I love most about this outfit is:

It makes me look as though I spent some time getting dressed, even though it doesn’t actually take that much effort.

That kind of effortless elegance is exactly the summer style I am drawn to right now.

04 | Aritzia Article Linen Top + The Effortless Pant™ Linen: My Favorite City-Chic Summer Look

For my final outfit, I wanted to choose something for those days when, like me, I still want to look polished and put-together while living in the city during summer.

I would choose the Aritzia Wilfred Article Linen Top + The Effortless Pant™ Linen.

The Article Linen Top is a fitted linen button-up top featuring short sleeves, princess seams for shaping, and a fully lined construction. It is made from 100% organic linen and is currently listed at $118 on the U.S. website.

I would pair it with the brand’s classic The Effortless Pant™ Linen.

It features a high-waisted, wide-leg silhouette with front pleats and a relaxed, fluid shape. The fabric is a linen and TENCEL™ Lyocell blend. This is one of my favorite ways to dress for the city in summer.I love wide-leg trousers, but I don’t want my outfit to look completely shapeless.

The Article Linen Top gives my upper body a more defined silhouette, while the relaxed Effortless Pant creates movement and softness through the lower half.

The first time I tried this combination of a fitted top and wide-leg pants, I immediately felt that it worked beautifully for summer. It doesn’t emphasize my entire body the way a fitted dress can, but it also doesn’t make me look lost in oversized clothing.A little definition on top and a little more freedom on the bottom makes the overall proportions feel much more balanced to me.

I also especially love the way wide-leg trousers move when I walk.As I move, the fabric naturally sways with me, giving the entire outfit a sense of lightness and movement. The 100% organic linen Article Linen Top has a distinct natural texture, while the linen and TENCEL™ Lyocell blend of The Effortless Pant gives the trousers a softer drape.

I actually love the way these two textures work together.

For me, summer dressing doesn’t need to be complicated.

I would much rather use one beautifully made piece, a comfortable fabric, and a few of my own styling habits to gradually develop a personal sense of style.Sometimes I dress very simply, with just a linen dress and a pair of sandals. Other times, I enjoy carefully coordinating my skirt, bag, and jewelry. But no matter what I wear, I want to feel relaxed once I put it on rather than constantly wondering, “Do people think I’m stylish enough?”I’m increasingly convinced that true personal style comes from the pieces I’ve worn many times and still genuinely want to wear again.

Summer is short, so I would rather spend my time enjoying the sunshine, evening breeze, coffee, and people I love than spending too much time worrying about what I should wear today.

If an outfit allows me to comfortably walk out the door and still makes me like what I see in the mirror, then to me, it is the perfect summer outfit.
