If I had to describe my ideal summer makeup look in a few words, I would choose: lightweight, fresh, natural, and slightly luminous.
So when I put together my summer makeup bag now, I no longer simply chase the latest “viral” beauty products.I care much more about this: Does this product actually work? Will it feel comfortable on different skin types? Can I genuinely incorporate it into my everyday makeup routine?
This time, I picked five makeup products that I really love, including complexion, blush, and lip products. They are also the types of products I think work particularly well for summer.
I want to share my own approach to using them and the makeup looks I like to create. If you are like me and prefer a lightweight, natural summer makeup look, I think these products are worth adding to your shopping list.
01 | Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer: My Lightweight Summer Base
Base makeup has always been one of the things I find most difficult in summer. I want enough coverage to even out my skin tone and cover a few small imperfections, but I don’t want my foundation to look obvious or heavy. That’s why, when I’m choosing a summer foundation, I pay particular attention to Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Foundation SPF 19.
The brand describes it as a lightweight, sheer, long-wearing foundation with buildable light coverage and a soft-matte finish. The U.S. website currently lists it at $52, and it is available in a relatively wide range of cool, warm, and neutral shades.
What I love most about this type of foundation is that it doesn’t try to completely “redraw” my skin. I prefer makeup that still allows some of my real skin texture to show through. Especially in summer, I feel that when foundation is too thick, it can make my complexion look unnaturally flat.
The lightweight feel of Double Wear Sheer fits perfectly with the kind of makeup I enjoy wearing now. I usually apply a thin layer over my entire face and then add a little more around my nose, the corners of my mouth, or areas with redness. I really like this approach of adding coverage only where I actually need it.
This is something I particularly value in summer. This foundation offers long-lasting wear and resistance to sweat and humidity, and it can also be applied with the fingers. For me, that makes it particularly useful for work, dates, shopping, and summer travel, especially when I want my makeup to stay relatively fresh throughout the day.
I especially like lightweight foundation when the weather is hot and humid because I don’t want my entire face to feel covered in a thick layer of makeup.
How It Works for Different Skin Types
For oily or combination skin, I tend to look for lightweight, soft-matte foundations like this one. The brand also positions Double Wear Sheer as suitable for oily and combination skin.
For dry skin, I make sure to moisturize thoroughly before applying foundation, especially around my cheeks and under-eye area, so the makeup doesn’t emphasize dryness.
For sensitive skin, I pay particular attention to the formula and my own skin’s tolerance. The official product information describes it as fragrance-free, dermatologist-tested, and suitable for all skin types.
Of course, I think every skin type should choose products based on its own condition rather than simply buying something because it is described as suitable for a particular skin type.
The thing I love most about it is this: I want people to see my skin, not my foundation. I prefer that “my skin just happens to look really good today” kind of effect.

02 | MAC Glow Play Cushiony Blush: The Soft Blush I Can’t Stop Using in Summer
If I had to choose one product that can instantly bring life to a summer makeup look, I would choose blush.
I often feel that foundation simply evens out my complexion, while blush is what actually makes me look fresh and awake.
One of my favorites is MAC Glow Play Cushiony Blush.
There are several shades available, including True Harmony. The product has a soft, elastic, cushion-like texture that can be layered for more color while giving the cheeks a subtle luminous effect. The current retail price is around $34.
The first time I tried a soft, cushion-like blush texture, I immediately felt that it suited the kind of summer makeup I like. I don’t really like blushes that become extremely intense with one application. I prefer products that I can build gradually.
I usually start by applying a small amount to the highest point of my cheeks and then blend it out with my fingers or a makeup sponge. If I want a more noticeable look that day, I simply add another layer. I love having that level of control.
I think it is particularly suitable for creating everyday work makeup, date makeup, and summer vacation looks. Especially in summer, I often reduce the amount of eyeshadow and contour I use and let my skin and blush become the focus. It actually feels much easier and fresher to me.
Sometimes I even blend my blush slightly toward my temples to give my face a softer, more summery feeling.I have always felt that blush is the easiest product for making me look like I have just had a wonderful afternoon.
Especially in summer, I don’t necessarily need a full face of makeup. As long as my cheeks have a little natural-looking color, I immediately feel more energetic. I love the kind of blush where people don’t think, “She is wearing blush,” but instead think: “You look really fresh and healthy today.”

03 | Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush: One Tiny Drop Can Change My Entire Makeup Look
If MAC Glow Play represents the soft and subtle side of my makeup, then Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is the product I reach for when I want to complete my makeup quickly.
It is a liquid blush with a lightweight, highly pigmented, buildable formula. The brand describes it as long-lasting, with up to 12 hours of wear, and states that it is suitable for sensitive skin.
One of the shades currently featured on the official website is Hope, a soft mauve-toned shade with a dewy finish.
When I first tried a highly pigmented liquid blush like this, my biggest realization was:
I really shouldn’t use too much at once.
Now I usually take an extremely small amount and blend it out quickly. I especially love watching the color gradually appear. With a tiny amount, it looks very natural, and when I build it up, the entire makeup look becomes more noticeable.
It is particularly useful when I’m in a hurry. If I don’t have much time in the morning, I don’t spend a lot of time creating complicated eye makeup. I simply go: Base → Brows → Liquid Blush → Mascara → Lip ColorWith just these few steps, I can create a fresh and polished summer look. I also really like the way the liquid blush blends into my base makeup.、
I especially love the “just came back from the sun” feeling it gives me. When I’m wearing white, beige, or light blue, I often choose soft pink, nude rose, or peach shades.
I’ve noticed that changing the blush color even slightly can completely change the mood of my outfit. That’s one of the reasons I have become more interested in makeup.
It doesn’t just change my face. It also changes the mood I want to express that day.
04 | Dior Addict Lip Glow: My Essential “Lazy Girl” Lip Product
When it comes to summer lip makeup, I’ve become much more minimal.
I used to carefully line my lips, apply lipstick, and then add a layer of lip gloss. But now, if I’m simply going out for coffee or shopping, I prefer a tinted lip balm that I can pick up and apply without thinking too much.
That’s why Dior Addict Lip Glow has remained one of my favorite lip products.
Dior currently describes it as a 48-hour hydrating, pH-reactive tinted lip balm. The current U.S. price is $42, and it comes in a variety of cool and warm shades.
The thing I love most about it is how simple it is. I don’t need a mirror, and I don’t have to carefully define my lip line. I can simply swipe it onto my lips and immediately get a little natural-looking color and shine.
For me, its biggest advantage is convenience. If I’m traveling, I don’t want to bring five or six different lip products. A tinted lip balm like this can cover so many everyday situations. I can wear it alone or use it as a base underneath another lip color.
My lips can also be in different conditions. When my lips are dry, I particularly like a lip product with hydrating properties. If my lips tend to feel oily or I want a more defined lip look, I treat it as a lightweight everyday lip color rather than expecting it to replace a highly pigmented lipstick.I don’t like heavy lip makeup in summer. Especially when I’m wearing a white dress or a linen outfit, I prefer a more translucent-looking lip color.
A natural pink or nude shade makes the entire makeup look feel lighter. I love that subtle glow because it gives me the feeling that my skin just happens to be having a really good day.

My Summer Makeup Bag Really Comes Down to These Few Feelings
When I categorize these five products, I realize that they actually represent different summer moods for me.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer — when I want a lightweight, natural base with longer-lasting wear.
MAC Glow Play Cushiony Blush — when I want my cheeks to look soft, fresh, and naturally flushed.
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush — when I want to quickly create a noticeable yet natural summer makeup look.
Dior Addict Lip Glow — when I don’t want to spend time creating a complicated lip look and simply want my lips to look hydrated and naturally tinted.
I have increasingly realized that makeup isn’t about covering every single detail of my face.
That’s why I no longer ask myself whether a makeup product is currently popular or trending.
Instead, I prefer to ask myself: “Will this product allow me to feel comfortable and beautiful throughout summer?”
I also recommend checking the shade, skin-type suitability, price, and availability before purchasing, especially when choosing foundation. I think it is important to understand your own skin tone and undertone before choosing a foundation shade.
If I want to purchase these makeup products, I usually prioritize the following:
Estée Lauder Official Website: Suitable for purchasing Double Wear products and other complexion makeup.
Rare Beauty Official Website: Suitable for purchasing Soft Pinch Liquid Blush and other products.
Dior Beauty Official Website: Suitable for purchasing Dior Addict Lip Glow and other lip makeup products.
MAC Cosmetics Official Website: Suitable for purchasing products such as Glow Play.
For me, a summer makeup bag doesn’t need to be as full as possible.
The products I keep reaching for are always the ones that make getting ready easier while also making me like the person I see in the mirror a little more.
